Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom finally confirm split with joint statement

The couple have called it quits after being engaged for six years

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have officially confirmed their split in a joint statement.

The couple first began dating in 2016, and the Pirates of the Caribbean actor popped the question in 2019, before their daughter Daisy Dove was born in August 2020.

Although it seemed like they almost had the whole 'love, marriage and a baby carriage' thing down pat, the pair have announced there has been a 'shift' in their relationship.

Representatives for Perry and Bloom have now shared a joint statement confirming their break-up in the wake of reports that began to emerge last week, which suggested they had called time on their engagement.

It explained that the famous duo have been 'shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting'.

"They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is - and always will be - raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect," it added.

The news is unlikely to come as a huge surprise to fans, given that the pop star didn't attend Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's lavish nuptials in Venice with Bloom - despite her blasting off into space with the new bride in April.

Bloom, a father-of-two, was rubbing shoulders with A-listers such as Sydney Sweeney, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kim Kardashian, while Perry was Down Under performing shows for her 'Lifetimes' Tour.

After going stag to the high-profile wedding, Bloom sparked further speculation about the state of his relationship after sharing a cryptic post to Instagram discussing 'loneliness' and 'darkness'.

Resharing a carousel of quotes from Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung on his story, Bloom seemed to resonate with the profound messages.

One read: "Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate that seem important to oneself," while another said: "Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word happy would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness."

This isn't Perry and Bloom's first rodeo when it comes to parting ways romantically, as they called it quits for a year back in 2017 after just 10 months of dating.

In hindsight, the 'Teenage Dream' singer said that the demise of their relationship changed her life, as it prompted her to go on a journey of self-improvement.

"I would not be on this planet without that process and meditation," she told Alex Cooper during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast last year.

Discussing her hopes for her and Bloom's future at the time and revealing why they regularly attended couples therapy, Perry said: "We want to evolve that’s I think why we’re in our relationship is to become better humans so we can raise this beautiful human being.

"It’s been different layers. The more we do the work, the more we find the next level."
