30 years ago, Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell took over the world for a brief moment.
Through their Nickelodeon sitcom (lasting all the way until 2001) and 1997's cult comedy Good Burger, Kenan and Kel were bonafide megastars.
As an entertainment institution, though, the boys dipped in popularity over the intervening years, with a rumoured fall-out leading to their lengthy hiatus from each other.
Addressing the iciness on The Today Show, Kenan likened their rift to a romantic separation, which are often characterised by 'not a lot of communication'.

"Originally, it was just us, you know, kind of looking for our own individualism, basically, as adults, and kind of just taking a breather from, you know, being a duo, because we both came into the game as individuals, and you know, we were placed together because we worked so well together," he explained.

"And, yeah, it was just the journeys of being adults. And then, you know, time passes and more time passes, it just became ridiculous. And then I called to apologise and we played phone tag for like, a day or something. It was five minutes into the phone call and we were back.
"What were we waiting on all this time? But like, you just never really know until you actually have that talk," he reflected.
"It's time wasted, which is one of the biggest crimes I think you can do. So it feels so good to be back with my brother and the movies. We're looking forward to the next chapters."
In the time since they peeled off from one another, Kenan joined and left Saturday Night Live, as well as appeared in the films Snakes On a Plane, Hubie Halloween with Adam Sandler, The Smurfs and Clifford the Big Red Dog.
Kel, on the other hand, has built a solid catalogue of credits in SpongeBob Squarepants, Dancing with the Stars, Henry Danger and The Thundermans, before turning to religion in 2019 and becoming a youth pastor at Spirit Food Christian Center in Los Angeles.
Having finally reunited in 2023 for a sequel to Good Burger, the beloved pair launched a free-to-play mobile game this summer. Titled Orange Pop!, it's a puzzle format painted with Kenan and Kel's signature energy.
Kel previewed for PEOPLE back in June: "We're excited to have our own game out. When fans play, it's a lot of surprises that are inside of it too that you're going to love. You're gonna unlock stuff in there. A lot of fun secrets."
His longtime collaborator added: "As it goes on, you might get addicted. But we want everyone to play and have fun. It's a good time. It looks different than anything that I've seen out there."
"I'm really excited because it's helping to open up the Kenan & Kel universe, as we come into our adult performer united things. It's just another step down that road to mogulness."
The horizon looks lucrative too, as Kenan and Kel are developing another feature project in Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein, plus comic book series Kenan & Kel Meet Zombies.
