Lil Nas X has shared a worrying update on his health, revealing that he was taken to hospital earlier this week after losing control of one side of his face.

The American rapper, singer and songwriter, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, posted on Instagram to let fans know he was receiving care, using the caption: "Soooo lost control of the right side of my face."

While the 26-year-old is perhaps best known for his hit Old Town Road, he has also won himself a lot of fans thanks to his infectious personality, which included wanting to bring The Wiggles on tour with him, and also pausing a show so that he could take a s**t.

However, he's not universally popular, with his 2021 song MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) causing a lot of controversy as he danced with the devil on his lap, while his unofficial satan Nike shoes also didn't exactly go down well.

But fans were very concerned after he shared the video of him speaking from his hospital bed, showing that the right side of his face was frozen and unable to move.

It clearly hasn't dampened his spirits too much, as his usual upbeat energy clearly wasn't affected.

He said: "When I smile, this is me doing a full smile right now by the way… it’s like, what the f**k. I can’t even laugh right, bro. What the f**k! Oh my God. So… oh my God, bro. So… yeah."

While the musician didn't provide much reasoning as to why or how this facial paralysis happened, medical explanations may include infection, injury, or a brain condition, usually when the nerves controlling your facial muscles are irritated or damaged.

Bell's Palsy is also one possible explanation, as the NHS define that temporary condition as a weakness or lack of movement that usually affects one side of the face.

However, facial paralysis can also be a symptom of a stroke, which is a far more serious medical emergency.

Lil Nas X is due to release his second album DREAMBOY later this year, and it seems as if there are no plans for a delay despite this recent medical episode.

On Instagram stories, he later reassured fans that he would make a full recovery. He said: "Guys, I am OK!! Stop being sad for me! Imma look funny for a lil but but that’s it."

While it isn't confirmed, if the musician is suffering from Bell's Palsy, then the NHS suggest that the recovery period could last as long as six months, which would certainly impact his ability to perform.

LADbible group has contacted Lil Nas X's representatives for comment.
