Lizzo announces she's 'quit' music in dramatic statement

Fans are worried the singer has left the industry

Lizzo has released a dramatic statement, announcing she's ‘quit’.

The musician is responsible for a number of bops and hits such as ‘About Damn Time’ and ‘Truth Hurts’ but it seems we might not be getting anymore.

Real name Melissa Viviane Jefferson, Lizzo took to Instagram last night (29 March) with a post that’s shocked her fans.

It seems the rapper and singer has had enough of trolls and negativity online about her as she said she ‘didn’t sign up for this s**t’.

Although, some fans are hoping it’s the build up to an April Fool’s joke, many think she's quit music and are using her lyrics to remind her she’s ‘Special’.

Lizzo wrote in her statement: “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.

“All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

The 35-year-old star continued: “I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name."

“I didn’t sign up for this s**t - I QUIT,” she ended the statement with a peace sign emoji.

Lizzo released her fourth album, Special, in July 2022 and toured with it from 2022 through 2023 across North America, Europe and Oceania. She was featured on the album for the Barbie movie with an original song titled ‘Pink’ but has not released any other new music.

While she has continued to promote and work with her shape-wear brand, Yitty, Lizzo has stepped a little bit back from the spotlight of the music world since claims last year that she sexually harassed her back up dancers.

The ‘Rumours’ hit-maker was sued by some of her dancers for creating a hostile work environment and sexual harassment. Lizzo has denied all the claims.

Responding to her ‘quitting’ statement, one fan wrote in the comments: “Get you a Beyoncé shut off switch, Sis! Find tools and practices to shut out the noise - it’s possible! All great artists need one especially in this day and age where everyone’s opinions are platformed and amplified. Do not quit!!”

Another added: “You are so necessary, talented and important. You also deserve peace. Whatever makes you happy, I support.”

While others told her they ‘love’ her and to ‘never quit’, one speculated: “When does 'I Quit' come out on Spotify?”

As another put: “April 1st.”

LADbible has contacted Lizzo’s team for comment.
