If you were wondering how to handle bumping into a Hollywood star such as Macaulay Culkin on the street, wonder no more.

The film star has listed off the three strict rules he wants fans to follow when they encounter him in public, as there are certain things that he really 'doesn't like'.

The actor became a global sensation after starring in Home Alone when he was just ten years old, and has no doubt had thousands of admirers approach him since then.

And although Culkin, now 45, is very appreciative of his supporters who helped him reach dizzying heights of success, he also believes in setting boundaries.

During an appearance on Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett's SmartLess podcast earlier this month, the father of two laid out his dos and don'ts that fans should follow if they bump into him in public.

While chewing the fat with the three actors, Culkin opened up about how 'burdensome' being recognised as his Home Alone character Kevin McCallister became during his younger years.

Reflecting on how his life changed upon the release of the 1990 Christmas film, the screen star said: "There was kind of an adjustment period there.

"I had to manoeuvre those waters as best I could, really...I really wasn't given a lot of tools," he said. "I kind of just had to embrace it."

Although being mobbed by fans was a new experience for Culkin, it soon dawned on him that he could take 'charge' of the interactions that he had with people who intently followed his career.

Explaining how he adapted to his celebrity status, the American Horror Story actor explained: "The trick is just relax, set up your own ground rules, things like that.

"[I realised] that I'm in charge of the social interaction...like usually when people meet a celebrity, they go, 'I'm going to be cool!'

"And then they meet you, and they just turn into just something else. So, it's like, 'Oh, 'I'm in charge, I can guide this interaction'."

Presumably, these wayward incidents are what led him to produce a list of rules for fans to follow if they ever run into him.

He told SmartLess listeners that there are three things they should never do if they cross his path.

Kicking things off, the Richie Rich actor explained that swanning over to him while he is in the middle of a meal is a big no-no, which is basic manners in the eyes of a lot of people.

"Don’t approach me when I’m at the dinner table," Culkin said. "I don’t like that."

Rule number two is to steer clear of Culkin if he's out and about with his two young children - Dakota, 4, and Carson, 3 - who he shares with former Disney star Brenda Song.

And although you'd think this is obvious, the third and final rule which the child star wants people to abide by is to give him some privacy while he's doing his business.

He explained that fans should 'definitely' not follow him into the bathroom if they see him head inside.

I mean, is nowhere sacred?
