Matthew McConaughey revealed his dad eerily predicted the way he would die.

And it wasn’t exactly in a particularly common, typical way you might’ve guessed.

The Interstellar actor previously opened up about his parents’ rollercoaster relationship in his 2020 memoir Greenlights.

McConaughey described his mum and dad ‘like the Pacific Ocean in a storm’, with them having been divorced twice and got married three times.

Like any kid, the actor will, of course, have wanted to make Kay and James McConaughey proud – regardless of how turbulent their relationship was.

And let’s be honest, the blokes had a mega enough list of film credits so far to have fulfilled that from The Gentlemen and The Lincoln Lawyer to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Dazed and Confused.

In his memoir, McConaughey recalled the moment he found out his dad died as he received a call from his mum and his ‘knees buckled’.

During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, he talked a little more about the passing of James – and brace yourself for this.

The actor explained: “He said, ‘Boy’s when I go, I’m going to be making love to your mother.’ And he did. He called his shot.”

Yep, McConaughey’s dad died while having sex.

“6:30am on a Monday morning,” he continued. “He had a heart fibrillation”.

The star even claimed that, while James was being carried out of the house, he had to be in the nude so the neighbours could see just what he was packing down there.

“The paramedics were covering him and all the neighbours were out in the street, and he’s going down the garage. What’s the sensible thing to do at 7am? Cover him. My mom’s out there half-naked, ripping the sheet off, going, ‘Get that sheet off him; you’re gonna see how big Jim went out!’”

Well, good for him, he knew how he wanted to go and somehow that’s just what happened.

McConaughey echoed this tale in his memoir as he described: “I couldn’t believe it. He was my dad. Nobody or nothing could kill him. Except mum…

“And that’s what happened. He had a heart attack when he climaxed.”

Kay herself opened up about the ordeal in a 2020 episode of Red Table Talk when she said: “You know how he died, don't you?

"My husband died making love to me, and I remember saying when he fell back, I said, 'What's the matter, big boy? I wear you out?'

"And he's [giving] no response, no response and I'm thinking, 'Oh my god, something's wrong.'"

She continued: "I had no idea that it was too much. His heart just stopped, you know? We had a party for him, kind of a celebration of his life."
