Maura Higgins reveals reason why she's been celibate for a whole year

Maura Higgins has spoken about the reason why she's been celibate for a year.

She's just been on The Traitors US, which is to say she was probably filming several months ago but it has finally all been revealed now as she ended up as the runner-up on the show.

Irish reality star Maura, who first appeared on TV screens as a contestant on the fifth series of Love Island, made it all the way through to the final two before Love Island US star Rob Rausch revealed he was actually a Traitor and she'd lost the game.

For Brits wanting a bit of context of what that means for the Traitors runner-up, she was the Mollie and he was the Harry.

She called Rob an 'absolute a**ehole' and reminded him he'd 'pinky promised' that he wasn't on the baddies side, telling him: "You're never gonna have a girlfriend after this — you're such a good liar."

Speaking about the show to Elite Daily after the finale, she said: "I don’t trust men anyway. If I wasn’t used to that kind of guy, I reckon I would’ve been crying, storming out, never speaking to him again."

However, she said she knows it's 'a game, and he smashed it', so it sounds like it's a case of no hard feelings for Maura and Rob.

Something that isn't a game, or shouldn't be treated as such, is a relationship, as Higgins said she'd been celibate for a year due to being burned several times from past relationships and her partners cheating on her.

"I’ve already got severe trust issues," she said.

"I’ve been cheated on by the majority of my exes - that’s the reason I’ve been celibate for a whole year."

Maura won't be walking away from The Traitors US empty handed, however, as she congratulated Rob for winning the show and said she would 'accept nothing less than a Birkin handbag' by way of apology.

The Love Island US star did mention at the cast reunion that while he was planning on saving some of the prize money he was going to buy her the handbag she wanted.

She's no stranger to appearances on reality TV, having been on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in the past where she was a late addition to the jungle where she ended up finishing seventh and developing an unlikely double act with the Reverend Richard Coles.
