Oprah Winfrey has spoken out about how she has been using weight loss jabs, even stating that it had a massive effect on her body she was not expecting.

Winfrey opened up about her weight loss, and the fact she had been taking a GLP-1 jab to aid in this, in a new interview with People magazine.

The US celebrity became a household name throughout her 25 year run on The Oprah Winfrey Show, in that time becoming the world’s first black female billionaire.

She has since spoken in a new book about her struggles with obesity and how she now feels ‘free’ due to taking weight loss jabs.

Winfrey started taking a GLP-1 jab, not specifying which she takes in the article, after realising that she needs help in her battle with obesity.

She said: “I thought it was about discipline and willpower. But I stopped blaming myself.

“I feel more alive and more vibrant than I’ve ever been.”

Discussing the changes she has seen, Winfrey said: “I’m not constantly punishing myself.

“I hardly recognize the woman I’ve become. But she’s a happy woman. I feel like I have more to give to everybody. I’m just more open to all.”

The weight jabs have of course helped her lose weight, but she also revealed a surprising side effect: that she has gone sober.

She said: “I was a big fan of tequila. I literally had 17 shots one night. I haven’t had a drink in years.

“The fact that I no longer even have a desire for it is pretty amazing.”

GLP-1 jabs have an impact on your brain’s reward system, specifically how it regulates reward and motivation.

This can oftentimes make it so that cravings to drink alcohol are lessened.

In the interview she also spoke about how a simple change in her thinking led to her weight-loss.

She said: “I avoided the word ‘obesity.’ It connoted ‘out of control’.

“But I came to understand that overeating doesn’t cause obesity. Obesity causes overeating.

“That’s the most mind-blowing, freeing thing I’ve experienced as an adult.

“I want people to stop blaming yourself for genes and an environment you can’t control.

“I want people to have the information, whatever you choose to do with it, whether you get the medications, or whether you want to keep dieting.”

She went on to add: “There’s a wonderful African American spiritual that Maya Angelou used to sing: ‘I wouldn’t take nothing for my journey now’.

“In spite of the shaming and blaming myself, I wouldn’t take nothing for the journey.

“Whatever was happening needed to happen to get me to this point.

“I rejoice at feeling liberated from the struggle—because I had a real public struggle. And I am healthier now.”
