Here is the reason why Pamela Anderson made the decision to ditch wearing makeup altogether.

The 57-year-old Baywatch actress was once known for her sultry smokey eyes and overlined lips look back in the 1990s and early 2000s. However, Anderson decided to make a radical break from this look in previous years - a move which has received plenty of attention in the media.

Why did Pamela Anderson decide to stop wearing make-up?

Back in August 2023, the actress stepped out with a fresh face at Paris Fashion Week. The Last Showgirl star would later explain the heartbreaking reason behind her decision to ditch the cosmetics, explaining that she no longer felt like painting her face after the death of her makeup artist Alexis Vogel from breast cancer back in 2019.

"She was the best," Anderson said of Vogel's death and their working relationship during an interview with Elle.

"And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup," she continued, adding that the decision to go without felt 'freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious'.

During a recent appearance at the 2024 Gotham Film Awards - where she had received a nomination for her role in Gia Coppola's drama film - Anderson reflected further on her decision to go makeup-free, as well as what it felt like to wear makeup during filming.

"I love to wear makeup too sometimes," she explained to PEOPLE.

"It has a time and a place. I just feel in my personal life, it just didn't really make sense."

The actress then went on to reflect on what 'beauty' means to her, adding: "Being brave and living your dreams. It's never too late."

Ditching makeup isn't the only lifestyle change Anderson has made in recent years, with the actress previously explaining why she decided to leave Hollywood behind - and how leaving cosmetics behind factored into this.

"[It] was the beginning of me letting go of the image I had always had of myself," she told Better Homes and Gardens magazine.

As to why she decided to move back to her native Canada, Anderson added: "I was not in a good space when I moved back to Canada. I don’t know what happened over the last few decades, but I feel now so far removed from the image of who I was. I felt very sad and lonely.

"It came to a point where I decided to move home and disappear and get into my garden."
