Sharon Stone mortified at topless scene when intimacy coordinators 'weren't a thing’

Sharon Stone also stars in Nobody 2, which releases this week

Though it may be over 30 years since Sharon Stone first became a household name for Basic Instinct, the actor continues to be a huge success in the film industry.

Stone has seen the industry go through a great deal of change over that time, exemplified by her speaking out about a ‘mortifying’ topless scene from the 80s before intimacy co-ordinators ‘were a thing.’

Most recently, however, Stone has starred alongside Bob Odenkirk in Nobody 2 where she stars as Lendina, a female crime boss.

Stone ended up in the cast for the action sequel after Odenkirk met her at the Golden Globes, recalling how he got giddy after she said 'hi' to him, leading the Better Call Saul frontman to send her a note asking for her to be in the sequel.

For the 67-year-old, however, there has not always been this level of respect in the industry.

Stone had previously spoken about how, when filming the 1984 film Irreconcilable Differences, she was put through an awful experience which proves why intimacy co-ordinators are now such a vital part of film sets.

Speaking to Attitude Magazine, Stone said that she had been brought in one day to film a topless scene in the movie, which was her first film role.

Stone was playing an aspiring actor who was discovered one day working on a hot dog cart.

She revealed that, when filming the scene, the director Charles Shyer did not even clear the set saying there were ‘a million people’ on the set.

The Nobody 2 star shockingly revealed that one actor went as far as to shout: “Would you get out of the f*cking way? I can’t even see her tits.”

Stone finally added that she was ‘so terrified’, saying: “You know when you can hear your heartbeat in your ears? That’s all I could hear.

“Oh my God. It was such a nightmare. I mean, when they asked me if I had any #MeToo [experiences]…”

Thankfully, intimacy co-ordinators are now commonplace on film sets to ensure that actors filming intimate scenes of any nature are treated fairly and respectfully.

The actor once laughed in the face of one interviewer who asked if she had ever been made to feel uncomfortable on a film set.

She now has clauses in all her contracts stating that she gets to hold onto her costume after jobs in part due to an uncomfortable experience on a TV film in the 80s.

She said in an interview with The Times: “After I did a television film in the 1980s they sold my wardrobe at a discount at the studio to make their money back, and they were selling my underwear.

“I was so embarrassed and uncomfortable that the crew guys were rummaging around in my underpants, I thought ‘never again.’

“So I had it put into my contracts that I keep all my clothes from films, unless they are studio rentals.”
