Rapper Soulja Boy has teased plans to run in the 2028 US presidential race.
Yep, you did read that correctly - the noughties rapper, best known for his hit Crank That (Soulja Boy) has seemingly got a move into politics on his mind.
In a post on his Instagram page, Soulja Boy - real name DeAndre Cortez Way - suggested a ‘new chapter’ was on the way and said he was committed to ‘creating opportunities for the next generation’.
In the post, the 36-year-old star can be seen dressed smartly in a dark-coloured outfit and plenty of jewellery as he poses in front of a huge American flag.

Alongside the image, he wrote: “A new chapter. A bigger vision. A commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation.
My focus is on four things: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI.
“From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible.
“Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service.
“The future starts with a conversation.”
He rounded out his post with several hashtags, including #SouljaBoy2028 #America2028 and #TheFuture.
Fans of the rapper were surprised, but seemingly pretty happy, with the teased plans.
One wrote: “You got my vote.”
While a second commented: “I got a feeling he gone be the first rapper president.”
Someone else said: “You know what? Yeah. Hell yeah.”
As yet, Soulja Boy hasn’t officially announced his bid to run or revealed if he’d run for a particular party but the post does seem to make it clear he’s got politics on his mind.
Soulja Boy’s potential move into politics comes less than two years after he was hit with a backlash after performing at the Crypto Ball - an event held during Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration festivities.

Hitting back at critics, Soulja Boy said at the time that he was paid well for the gig and showed absolutely zero signs of any regrets.
“They paid me a bag. Obama ain't never put no money in my f****** pockets. Kamala ain't never put no money in my f****** pockets. Trump put money in my pockets," he stated.
He wouldn't be the first rapper to run for presidency
If he does go ahead, Soulja Boy wouldn’t be the first rapper to make a bid to land in the White House.
Back in 2020, Kanye West filed a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission with preacher Michelle Tidball as his running mate.
West, 49, conceded on 7 November after picking up around 60,000 votes for an estimated total of 160 million.
However, despite his less-than-impressive share of the votes, West didn’t appear to be put off and that very same week he tweeted: “Kanye 2024.”
He then formally announced his plans to run in 2022 and made several appearances on podcasts with the likes of Alex Jones, Tim Pool, and Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes, to talk about his presidential campaign.
But by October 2023, the campaign had gone quiet and West’s lawyer confirmed he was not an active candidate.
