Dakota Fanning shares gift Tom Cruise has bought her every year for last 20 years

Growing up as a child in Hollywood is never easy but in the case of Dakota Fanning, it does have some benefits.

The star, who you might well remember as the sassy youngster in films such as The Cat in the Hat, has revealed that she had to put up with some 'super inappropriate questions' as she navigated becoming an adult in the spotlight.

You only need to look at the likes of Macaulay Culkin or more recently North West, to see how difficult it can be when the media scrutinises every move you make when you're barely out of nappies.

But that was the case with Fanning, now 31, as she grew up in the world of Hollywood movies and red carpets.

It's not all doom and gloom, however, as thanks to her father-daughter relationship with Tom Cruise in 2005 thriller War of the Worlds, she still gets a birthday present from the A-list actor more than 20 years on.

In fact, according to Fanning, he's sent it without fail every single year since they first did the movie together, and given the millions he's amassed during his career, you can be sure it's pretty high quality.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live on 6 November, she was asked by host Andy Cohen about the rumours that Cruise has been sending her a nice pair of shoes for the past two decades.

Fanning said: “Yes, he does.”

“Really nice shoes, yes,” she added when Cohen asked her to clarify 'what kind of shoes' they were.

“I have so many questions,” fellow guest Brittany Snow said, as Fanning responded: “It’s really as simple as that. He’s just always given me shoes.”

Snow then asked: “But are they nice shoes, are they sneakers? Or are they like…?”

Fanning simply reaffirmed that they are indeed 'nice' shoes, which you really would expect from a man such as Tom Cruise, unless he has a passion for Crocs which the media isn't aware of.

You might be wondering how the Hollywood actor has managed to still find the right size shoes as Fanning's gone from 11 to 31 but no mission is too impossible for Mr Cruise.

She added: “It has changed over the years and he’s adapted. He’s adapted.”

Fanning has gone on to have a successful acting career, with recent projects including The Watchers, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and a number of TV series, while her younger sister Elle has also made it big, playing Bob Dylan's love interest in 2024's A Complete Unknown.
