From being Spider-Man to fighting through a tsunami, Tom Holland has featured in some mega films over his career.

But while he’s got a number of huge projects coming up this summer, we’ve never seen the 30-year-old fill the same slot as a lot of his actor peers; Saturday Night Live (SNL) host.

We often see stars take on the guest role for both the US and UK shows while doing their press rounds and Holland admits he’s been asked ‘a few times to do it’.

However, during an appearance on today’s (2 June) podcast episode of Good Hang with Amy Poehler, the Odyssey actor explained he’s always turned it down because he’s ‘really scared’.

This comes down to Holland being worried about the use of cue cards on SNL when he is ‘heavily dyslexic’.

Explaining this to the SNL icon, he said: “It’s one of the reasons why I’ve never done SNL because I’m just so petrified at the concept of like, trying to read something and they change.”

Famously, the sketch comedy show uses big cue cards with the lines on to guide stars and the cast through the scenes, with rewrites often happening right up until the last minute.

And this worries Holland despite Poehler saying she’s ‘sure they’ve had many dyslexic hosts’.

“Totally, it’s just that for me, I can read fine,” he explained, “but when I have to read out loud, it just becomes like a kind of mental block.

“And I can freeze. So for me, my worst day at work is the read through. Like at the read through, I will really try and highlight everything and learn my lines ahead of time, so that I’m more kind of skimming it than I am reading it.”

While he said he’s been ‘lucky that they’ve asked me a few times’ to be on SNL, the truth is: “I’m actually just really scared at the prospect of it.”

Holland continued: “I love the show and I love the idea of having fun and making a fool of yourself in such a fun, creative way. It’s just that thing of the cue cards.”

Poehler tried to offer some encouragement to the actor as she reckons he ‘can do it’ as she joked: “You have to remember that there have been people that have hosted that have been fully on drugs.”

Holland previously explained he was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of seven and described himself to Poehler as ‘heavily dyslexic’.
