Jada Pinkett-Smith said she never wanted to marry Will Smith in resurfaced video

Jada Pinkett-Smith said she never wanted to marry Will Smith in resurfaced video

Jada recently admitted that her and Will have been separated since 2016

It was revealed yesterday (11 October) in a shock admission that Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have actually been separated since 2016.

Jada admitted the pair have been living separately for years.

She told People: “We’re still figuring it out. We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together.

“We just got deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”

The pair married back in 1997, but Jada told Hoda Kotb in an NBC News prime-time special that they have been living ‘completely separate lives’.

She explained: “By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”

Although they aren’t legally divorced, Jada has actually said in the past that she didn’t want her wedding to the Men in Black star.

She made the confession during a 2018 episode of Red Table Talk, adding that she felt pressured into marrying Will.

The actor said she cried 'all the way' down the wedding aisle to tie the knot and only went ahead with it as she was pregnant with their first child, Jaden.

"I really didn’t want to get married...I didn’t want a wedding either," she said on her chat show.

"I was under so much pressure. Being a young actress, being young and pregnant. I didn’t know what to do, but I knew I never wanted to be married."

Will also appeared in the clip, completely aware of his wife's cold feet prior to saying 'I do'.

“We only got married because Gammy [Jada’s mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris] was crying," he said.

And Banfield-Norris described the nuptials as a disaster.

“The wedding was horrible. It was a mess," she said. "Jada was sick, she was very unpleasant. She didn’t cooperate with anything.”

Jada then said: "I was so upset that I had to have a wedding. I was so p****ed. I went crying down the freaking aisle. I cried the whole way.”

She did elaborate on her feelings, adding: “I didn’t want to get married and now Gammy’s gone running to Will, crying about how I don’t want to have a wedding.

"Now I’m being forced to have a wedding, when really I just wanted it to be the two of us [her and Will] on a mountain, because this is serious business."

Despite her wedding jitters, Will said he couldn't have been happier with the day.

"There wasn’t a day in my life that I wanted anything other than being married and having a family," he said.

"From literally five years old, I was picturing what my family would be."

Jada told Kotb following her recent admission that she’s never been able to go through with a divorce, explaining: “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through ... whatever.

“I just haven’t been able to break that promise."
