Wynne Evans issues apology over 'inappropriate' sexual comment during Strictly live tour

Wynne Evans' comment was caught on camera

Stars from the recent series of Strictly Come Dancing are currently on tour and Wynne Evans has ended up in hot water right from the beginning.

The opera singer has issued an apology over an ‘inappropriate’ sexual comment he made during the launch in Birmingham.

Evans, who you might know better as the bloke from the Go.Compare adverts, has been touring the UK after competing on the BBC show last year with Katya Jones.

Video footage obtained by The Mail on Sunday showed him using sexual language that seemingly made other people feel pretty uncomfortable on 16 January.

In the clip, the whole cast can be seen getting ready to pose at the photocall including Tasha Ghouri, Shayne Ward and Jamie Borthwick.

Evans can be first heard saying: “Not too close to Jamie.”

Then, as presenter Janette Manrara took her place between him and another star, he used the grim demeaning term ‘spit roast’.

Some awkward laughter can be heard while Evans smirks to himself and Manrara’s face is obscured by the Strictly stars.

After this video emerged, Evans issued an apology and it is understood he was given a warning over the remark by tour producers.

He said in a statement: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise.”

Following the incident, a spokesperson for the Strictly live tour and BBC Studios also said: “We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints.

“We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour.”

This inappropriate comment follows the backlash Evans had during his time on the TV show with the viral ‘hand incident’.

He was spotted on camera putting his hand on the waist of his professional dance partner Jones which some viewers saw as inappropriate.

And she could be seen brushing his hand away as they were filmed live on camera. This was also followed by the pro denying Evans’ request for a high-five.

Both stars refuted it as a ‘silly joke’, with Jones saying on the spin-off show, It Takes Two, that the idea she was ‘uncomfortable’ was ‘total nonsense’.

And she also took to Instagram to add: “It’s actually absurd.

“So let’s focus on how brilliantly Wynne Evans is doing and what an amazing dancer he’s becoming.”

With Evans writing on social media: “Apologies for this tonight we were just messing around.

“We really are amazing friends. The high 5s is a running joke. Have a great evening.”
