They told us in school that we would use maths as adults and, obviously, this is what they meant.

Ed Sheeran has dropped an exciting bombshell for fans, revealing he has in fact mastered at least one side for his calculator.

Yes, his next album, Subtract, will soon drop to complete his 'Mathematics' era.

The British hitmaker is currently touring Australia for his Mathematics tour, performing his greatest hits across his four albums +, x, ÷, and =.

But, in a few short weeks, we'll get to listen to the final album in the era with -.

Can we just say THANK GOD because we are so keen to leave this sort of quick maths business behind us.

People on social media weighed in on their feelings of relief, with many pointing out that they have graduated from school so please stop, for the love of God.

One Twitter user said: "No one tell him about calculus please."

Another added: "WE’RE FREE."

While a third commented: "Watch him come out with pi next."

Someone else chimed in with: "HE LEARNED BASIC MATHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Well done, Sheeran. Straight to the top of the class.

Subtract will 'open the trapdoor' that shields his heart and soul to share with his fans.

The acoustic LP will take fans on a journey through Sheeran's grief, hope, fear, depression, and anxiety.

"I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be," he wrote in the note.

"Then at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art."

Sheeran revealed he just 'wrote whatever tumbled out' and, in one week, he had replaced a decade’s worth of work with his darkest thoughts.

"Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth. My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter," Sheeran said.

"I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air."

Sheeran shared that he didn't feel comfortable putting out music that didn't 'accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life'.

"This album is purely that," he revealed.

"It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul. For the first time, I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life."

He ended the post with: "This is last February’s diary entry and my way of making sense of it. This is Subtract."

Subtract will drop on May 5, 2023.
