Ed Sheeran has more symbol-based albums up his sleeve only for release after his death

Looks like his maths era is just the beginning of it all.

Forget Ed Sheeran's maths era because he has a whole new symbol era coming.

There is, however, one teensy little catch, though.

They won't be released until after his death.

In a sit-down chat with Rolling Stone at his temporary home in New Zealand, the British pop star spilled the beans on his life, love, loss, and - of course - music.

He's just about to release a new record on May 3, Subtract, which will complete his maths era... unless he starts delving into things that aren't on your standard calculator like Pi and whatnot.

But he apparently has plans for another five-album collection using another category of symbols.

But he's not ready to share what the symbols will be just yet.

What he did share, though, was that he sees the final album as a years-long project ending with the grim twist.

"I want to slowly make this album that is quote-unquote 'perfect' for the rest of my life, adding songs here and there," he said.

"And just have it in my will that after I die, it comes out."

That's dark, Ed. But we sort of dig it.

And he has a huge back catalogue on unreleased tunes to choose from.

Rolling Stone's Brian Hyatt describes it as a 'dizzying' amount, adding that the tracks span across 'so many styles [of music] it almost feels like a prank'.

Oh, and Hyatt also teased he may know what the symbols are, just off the record.

Some reporters have all the luck.

Anyway, back to Sheeran revealed that he has a veritable treasure trove of tracks to choose from for his upcoming symbols albums.

"I’ve got loads and loads and loads of s**t,” Sheeran said.

The clever songwriter and lyricist doesn't wait for inspiration to strike, either.

He just likes to keep the flow strong and steady.

So, basically, never stop.

"I wrote 25 songs the week I wrote ‘Shape of You'," the 32-year-old said.

"Who’s to say at what point creativity stops and you can’t write any more songs?"

He added: "At least there’s enough banked up."

And, luckily for his millions of fans, there was enough in the tank to take the shape of Subtract, out May 5.

But that's not before his docuseries drops about the ups and downs of his maths era.

Ed Sheeran: The Sum Of It All will be available for streaming as of Wednesday May 3 on Disney+.
