Elisabeth Moss, star of The Handmaid’s Tale, is a critically acclaimed actress who has achieved successes in film, TV and theatre.
Born in Los Angeles, Moss was a keen dancer as a child and was educated in dance techniques, even studying ballet at the prestigious School of American Ballet. However, her professional dance career was short-lived as she quickly began to attract acting roles in her youth. Her acting career commenced on the small screen, appearing in a number of TV series in the early 1990s. Gradually she transitioned to the silver screen, though it wasn’t until 1999, when she appeared in James Mangold’s Girl, Interrupted, that she became a hit.
Even with a decade of acting under her belt, Moss struggled to make headway in the early 2000s but appeared in adverts which kept residual income coming her way as she strove for bigger film roles. In the latter half of the decade, she made her Broadway debut in Speed-the-Plough as well as finding work in further TV series and as a supporting actress in a number of films.
