The Handmaid's Tale Season Five: Trailer, Release Date and Cast

The Handmaid’s Tale has been one of the most impactful TV series of the last decade and its fifth season will be released this year

The Handmaid’s Tale, based on the 1985 novel of the same name, has been one of the most impactful TV series of the last decade and its fifth season is being released this year.

The show’s debut season won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series and its subsequent seasons have attained a significant following and earned widespread praise. There is much anticipation for season five.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season Five: Release Date

Season five will be released in the US on September 14th on the streaming service Hulu. In the UK the previous four seasons have been made available on Amazon Prime, but no date has been announced for when season five will become available on Prime.

Previous seasons of the show have also been released on Channel 4. There has been no announcement regarding whether Channel 4, which the government have recently decided to privatise, will be showing season five.

The trailer for show’s fifth season has not yet been released, however Hulu have just shared these first look images.


The Handmaid’s Tale Season Five: Cast

The show stars Elizabeth Moss who has also featured in horror films Us and The Invisible Man. This is the second major television series in which Moss has played a significant role; she starred in the AMC series Mad Men for all seven seasons. Moss, 39, is one of the leading actresses of her generation and was the recipient of the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in season one of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Season five will also feature Bradley Whitford, who found fame after appearing as Josh Lyman on The West Wing, and Yvonne Strahovski who starred alongside Kiefer Sutherland in 24: Live Another Day. 

Actresses Madeline Brewer and Samira Wiley have both appeared in The Handmaid’s Tale since the show’s inception in 2017 and return for its fifth season.
