People reckon there’s loads of similarities between Shrek and House of the Dragon

Dragons? Castles? Manipulative royals...just to name a few.

Now that the first season of House of the Dragon has come to an end, many people have found a startling resemblance between shots in the series and the Shrek franchise.

While the two might seem like worlds apart, once you see some of the posts circulating online, you’ll never be able to look at House of the Dragon the same way again. Or Shrek, for that matter.

One Twitter account under the name ‘Out Of Context House of Dragoneven went so far as to compare the two in a split-screen video, and we have to admit they’re uncanny.

Another fan also noted how Rhaenys and her Dragon interrupting Aegon’s coronation in episode nine looks eerily similar to when Dragon crashes into The Duloc Cathedral during Princess Fiona’s wedding to Farquaad.

Also, can we mention how Alicent Hightower’s costume is eerily similar to Princess Fiona's?

The plait and the green and gold ensemble? We’re surprised Alicent's character didn’t attach ogre ears to that crown of hers at this point.

Look, we understand fantasy stories with castles, dragons, and cutthroat royals at the helm will always strike a likeness to each other.

But my god is the video evidence damning.

One person wrote on Twitter: “House of the Dragon plagio a Shrek 2 and you can’t change my mind.”

Another said: “So it turns out ’House of the Dragon’ and ’Shrek’ are basically the same thing.”

A third person commented: “House of the Dragon is a perfect mix between The Kardashians, Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon #HOTDFinale.”

While another shared: “I just saw a video comparing House of the Dragon and Shrek it’s crazy how similar some scenes are.”

With season two’s production taking place early next year, showrunner Ryan Condol has confirmed the story will follow different pacing for the next instalment.

He told Forbes that while season one spent time getting to know each character extensively, we can expect some big moments for the leads as they head into the civil war.

He said: “Series two will hit the rhythms people came to expect from the middle run of Game of Thrones, but it will have been earned, and viewers will feel the tragedies because we put the work in.”

Perhaps The Dance of Dragons may even include a Rhaenyra and Alicent rendition of ‘Livin' La Vida Loca’ a la Donkey and Puss in Boots style?
