House of the Dragon viewers complain they can't see a thing in new episode

The Game of Thrones prequel has been accused of the same unnecessary darkness by fans

Another hit series about dragons, another round of gripes about a frustrating lack of visibility.

House of the Dragon returned with a new episode, and like Game of Thrones before it, fans complained they couldn't see what the hell was going on.

Of course, a drama littered with killing, mutilation and incest was always going to be dark, but people think there's no need for it to literally be so dark.

On social media, one viewer complained: "We can't see a damn thing on tonight episode of house of the dragon."

Another said: "this new house of the dragon episode seems good, wish they'd spent some of that dragon money on lighting so I could actually see anything."

A third added: "House of the Dragon is literally the DARKEST show I've ever watched. I cannot see S**T."

While a fourth said: "I keep hoping, every week, that House of Dragons will be well-lit and I can actually make out the action in a whole episode.

"Alas. This is is not to be. #HouseOfTheDragon They seem intent on this whole episode being shot in the dark."

HBO Max actually responded to one fan's complaint about the episode on Twitter.

Their social media team wrote: "We appreciate you reaching out about a night scene in House of the Dragon: Episode 7 appearing dark on your screen.

"The dimmed lighting of this scene was an intentional creative decision. Thanks!"

So essentially, it was too dark on purpose.

LADbible has contacted HBO for comment.

House Of The Dragon is based on author George RR Martin's Fire And Blood, which is set 200 years before the events of Game Of Thrones.

The HBO drama - starring Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy and Paddy Considine - chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen and the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Following the successful launch of the prequel in August, the series was confirmed for a second instalment.

"We are beyond proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with season one," said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming.

"Our phenomenal cast and crew undertook a massive challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as must-see-TV. A huge thank you to George, Ryan, and Miguel for leading us on this journey.

"We couldn't be more excited to continue bringing to life the epic saga of House Targaryen with Season 2."

So there's plenty more darkness headed our way, lads.

But before then, we've still got the final three episodes of the first series to look forward to.
