Game Of Thrones Spin-Off In The Works After Producers Drop Big Hint

Game Of Thrones Spin-Off In The Works After Producers Drop Big Hint

"George RR Martin didn’t just build a story, he built a world."

When the news broke that Game of Thrones had only 13 more episodes to run before David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wrapped it all up, there was a collective and universal sadness.

There is so much going on, how could they bring together, and sufficiently end, everything in just 13 episodes?!

Well, they're trying, that's all there is to say about that. However, there is something to be said about a potential Game of Thrones spin-off.

Mmm exciting, right?

Benioff and Weiss appeared on the UFC Unfiltered podcast recently to discuss the idea of a spin-off series and it appears it is something they've considered. They just don't have time to think about it at the moment.

They said: "One of the great things about what George RR Martin did is that he didn't just build a story, he built a world.

"There are so many characters and such a rich, detailed history behind it that there are a lot of different ways you could go with it.

"We just haven't had time to really think through the details of it, because we're so focused on just getting the show made.

"This is such a 24-hour job. Once we start thinking about any spin-off, we realise we have other things that are immediately pressing that we need to be thinking about."

So, basically, they want to do a spin-off. But with so much to do in just 13 episodes, they're a little pre-occupied in making sure the last two seasons of Game of Thrones live up to the previous six.

The scope is huge, to be honest. Like they said, it's not just a story but an entire world.

A prequel type spin-off showing Robert Baratheon's rebellion and the death of the Mad King Aerys Targaryen would be awesome. As would the development of the relationship between Jaime and Cersei Lannister - although that might be more appropriate for PornHub than HBO.

And I reckon a series focused on Lyanna Mormont would be jokes. She's only been in like three episodes but she's already up there as one of my favourite characters. She is pure steel and she's like ten years old.

And then of course there are the stories of Benjen Stark, Gendry and the Iron Islands, which could all do with a bit of fleshing out.

I think a story about Balon, Victarion and Euron Greyjoy would make for some amazing TV (they're Theon and Yara's dad and uncles, respectively). In the books there is a deep mystery about Euron and his travels all over the world while Victarion is just a really sick character, who they haven't cast in the TV series at all.

Anyway, that's just my two cents, it's up to Benioff and Weiss what they do with their cinematic baby.
