For many, having the chance to kiss pop mega-star Katy Perry would be beyond their wildest dreams. But when one American Idol hopeful got the chance to kiss her, he didn't like it.

19-year-old Benjamin Glaze from Oklahoma was hoping to impress the American Idol judges with his acoustic guitar when judge Luke Bryan asked him if he'd ever 'kissed a girl and liked it'.

"No I've never been in a relationship, I can't kiss a girl without being in a relationship," Glaze said, looking decidedly sheepish.

Perry, 33, wasn't having that, insisting Glaze walk over to the judges' table - which he did, tentatively - so she could give him a smooch.

At first, Glaze said he would only kiss her on the cheek, and did, but the 'Teenage Dream' singer wasn't impressed, criticising Glaze for not making the 'smush sound'.

Keen to impress, Glaze went in for a second kiss on the cheek before Katy cheekily turned her head, surprising him with a kiss on the lips and raising her arms in victory.

The kid was clearly shocked, playfully falling to the floor and nervously swigging water from a bottle before performing Nick Jonas hit Levels for the judges.

He later told the New York Times that he felt 'uncomfortable' about the situation, even going as far to say that if Perry had asked before it happened then he would have turned her down.

Glaze said: "Would I have done it if she said, 'Would you kiss me?' No, I would have said no.

"I know a lot of guys would be like, 'Heck yeah!' But for me, I was raised in a conservative family and I was uncomfortable immediately. I wanted my first kiss to be special."

Not only was Glaze's first kiss a let-down for him, but Perry wasn't impressed with his singing either as the judges chose not to let Glaze advance to the next stage.

Despite the disappointment, the teen explained that his mates had reassured him that his kiss with Katy didn't really mean anything.

"They agreed with me that it didn't really count. It was lip contact versus a romantic situation with someone you care about. That's what a real first kiss is."

Given Perry's stature you'd have thought that Glaze would have been a bit more excited. Hopefully next time he pulls, it'll be a kiss he actually likes.
