Tom Holland Says He Wants Spider-Man To Face Venom

Fans are hoping for a movie crossover, although studio complications and licensing might prove to be significant roadblocks

Tom Holland, AKA Spider-Man, has revealed that he'd love to see his character face off against Venom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We would too, mate.

Appearing at the Ace Comic-Con in Seattle, Tom was asked which super-villain he'd most like to see Spider-Man face and he replied, 'maybe Venom'.

Makes sense - Venom was Spidey's nemesis in the first place, and he's already made an appearance in the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, before first Andrew Garfield and then Tom took over the rebooted role.

However, the rights to Venom are owned by Sony and Tom's Spider-Man is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Sony has previously said it wants to share the world of Spider-Man: Homecoming, so maybe the idea of a crossover isn't too far off?

Fans are already speculating that Tom might make a surprise cameo in Venom:

Venom, staring Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed, is out in October this year - following the story of Eddie Brock (played by Hardy) as he becomes the villainous Venom.

And fans of the webslinger were yesterday given the name of the upcoming Spider-Man flick, in a funny clip shared on Tom's Instagram account.

Due to his reputation as a bit of big mouth (he once dropped a massive Avengers: Infinity War spoiler to an entire movie theatre waiting to see the film) Tom was enlisted to break the news about the new movie and did so in a mock-spoiler clip.

He begins the clip apologising to fans about having nothing big to report, before saying he has only just been sent the script, which he then holds up on his iPad to reveal the title: Spider-Man: Far from Home.

No details of the plot have been revealed just yet (but we can assume Tom will probably slip up sooner or later) but that hasn't stopped fans from guessing potential story-lines, with many thinking 'far from home' will see Peter/Spidey in Europe. But those who have seen Avengers: Infinity War fear it might be slightly darker than a jaunt on the Eurostar.

Spider-Man: Far from Home is set to hit cinemas in July 2019.
