Actor Will Mellor has revealed that hit BBC sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps is set to return to screens for a one-off special.

The 43-year-old broke the news on Instagram, saying he's been inundated by messages from fans asking for a remake or sequel of the programme.

He explained that the cast and crew just had to 'dot the Is and cross the Ts', and the special would be 'on the way'.

In the Instagram video, he said: "Alright people, sorry I have not been on for a while, I have been waiting for something to tell you - some news, you know what I mean?

"Recently, since Two Pints came back - it is on at 11 o'clock every night on Gold, they are showing every episode - people have been messaging me about how much they miss the show and how much it was part of their growing up, saying 'Please bring it back for a special or do something'."

The original programme starred Ralf Little, Will Mellor, Natalie Casey, Sheridan Smith, Kathryn Drysdale, and Luke Gell.

He continued: "Well, I have been listening and reading your messages and I think we are going to get a Two Pints special off the ground.

"I spoke to Susan Nickson [the show's creator] and we are hopefully going to try and get a Two Pints special going. Just to say thank you for all the support of people who love the show and got behind it.

"Watch this space, just got to dot the Is and cross the Ts and hopefully a Two Pints special will be on the way."

It seems now's the time to revisit the joy of sitcoms past, with the recent announcement that Gavin and Stacey will be returning this Christmas for a one-off festive epsiode.

Gavin and Stacey is also returning this year for a special episode.

In a BBC press release about the special, co-writers Corden and Ruth Jones said: "Over the last ten years we've talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey - where they might be today and what their lives might look like.

"And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special. We've loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.

"We're so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen."
