Tywin Lannister Could Come Back For 'Game Of Thrones' Prequel

Tywin Lannister Could Come Back For 'Game Of Thrones' Prequel

There are currently several prequels in the works and Charles Dance says his character could make a return.

As far as Game of Thrones death scenes go, the murder of Tywin, the narcissistic Lannister patriarch who basically ruled from the shadows after Joffrey took to the throne, was definitely one of the most satisfying.

It's hard to imagine a more suitable end for such a colossal shitbag than taking a crossbow to the chest at the hands of your own son, whilst curling one out on a medieval-style bog. It's like poetry.

The only downside was that he was such a fantastic character, it was really a shame to have lost him with several series still to go.

However, a Lannister always pays his debts, and Charles Dance owed it to us, the viewers, not to let a character this brilliantly unlikeable disappear from our screens forever.

Speaking during an interview with Metro, Dance said that he'd be more than happy to take part in a GoT prequel, his only caveat being that it would need to be just as brilliant as what came before after it.

When asked about the potential for Tywin's return in a hypothetical prequel, Dance said: "If it was in the same calibre, yes. Because Game of Thrones really was as good as it gets. It's a fantastic series."

He added: "I look back on it fondly.

"Occasionally you have long days in the cold, the horse doesn't behave properly, or the armour sticks in the back of your neck, but we're not down in the mines digging for coal, we're actors."

If the thought of a Game of Thrones prequel seems too good to be true then buckle up because in fact there are reportedly as many as five of them in the works right now.

Granted, it's all a bit hush hush at the moment, but creator George R. R. Martin did discuss one of the projects on his blog, and even announced that long-time GoT writer Bryan Cogman was working on it.

Martin said: "I can say that, like the other pilots, it will be a prequel rather than sequel, a successor rather than a spin-off. Bryan's series will be an adaptation, and one that will thrill most fans of the books, I think, set during a very exciting period of Westerosi history. And I'll be working with him every step of the way; we're going to be co-creating the show.

"HBO should have a wealth of material to choose from. And that's not even counting the four weird-ass series concepts I've come up on my own, just for the hell of it.

"There are eight million stories in the naked city, and maybe ten times as many in Westeros and the lands beyond the narrow seas."

So, it looks like we've got nothing to worry about in terms of getting our fix once the curtains close on season eight. However, as for Tywin Lannister making a comeback, for now, all we can do is hope.
