Fans of the 28 Years Later franchise have made a horrifying realisation about the Jimmy Saville gang from the upcoming sequel film after the first trailer was released.
28 Years Later released only a few months ago and yet, already, the plans to release the sequel film to the series have begun.
Called 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the film appears to pick up with the main character Spike having joined the bizarre gang led by Jack O’Connell’s Sir Jimmy Crystal.

All of the members of the gang are matching in their Jimmy Saville inspired garb and were introduced in 28 Years Later’s bonkers ending, in which they intervened to save Spike from certain death.
The sequel film will see O’Connell take on a massively increased role as well as the return of Alfie Williams as Spike, Ralph Fiennes as Dr Ian Kelson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Jamie, and Chi Lewis-Parry as the Alpha Infected known as Samson.
Whilst Danny Boyle and Alex Garland set out the plans for a sequel trilogy, the third film of which is yet to be greenlit, Boyle is not returning to direct The Bone Temple.
Instead, they have brought in Nia DaCosta, the American director responsible for the fantastic Candyman remake and the critically panned The Marvels.

The trailer was praised similarly to 28 Years Later of doing a great job at giving a tense atmosphere, whilst preserving many of the story beats that modern movie trailers tend to give away.
This has not, however, stopped fans combing the trailer for potential information about what could be to come.
One shot in the trailer saw Jack O’Connell leading the Jimmies into Dr Kelson’s ‘Bone Temple’.

Whilst the first film’s trailers seemed to make out the skull and bone structure to be some ominous foreboding site of death, the movie instead showed that it was Kelson’s dedication to life in a heartbreaking scene where Spike’s mother Isla, played by Jodie Comer, dies.

One tweet quoting the trailer said: “Gonna be so mad when the Jimmies f*ck up all of Dr Kelson’s hard work on the bones.”
Another simply said: “Praying for Dr Kelson.”
A third posted a picture of Shaquille O’Neal calling for a timeout and said: “When I'm watching 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and they're mean to Dr. Kelson.”

Based on the Jimmie’s being let in to Dr Kelson’s inner sanctum, however, and Jack O’Connell’s description of his character as a ‘gas c*nt’ and the worst person he’s ever played, I’m not holding out hope for the lovely Dr Kelson.

Fans on Reddit discussing the film are hotly anticipating the sequel, with one saying: “28 Years Later is one of the few movies I still like to talk about months after seeing it.
“Lots of memorable moments and an ending that really sets up a stark tonal shift for the sequel.”
Another said: “Really, really interested in this. 28 Years Later isn’t for everyone, but I think it’s one of the best movies to be released this year, period.”
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is available to watch in cinemas January 6, 2026.
