The first trailer for Bad Boys 4 has dropped, with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence also making their grand return.

Bad Boys 4, now revealed to be called Bad Boys: Ride or Die, sees Smith and Lawrence return as the wise-cracking Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett.

Lawrence’s Burnett is beginning to show his age in the trailer, with the comedy of that seeming to play into the story of the film.

The trailer shows the pair needing to go on the run in order to clear the name of their long-time captain, Conrad Howard.

A news report states that Captain Howard has been working with the cartel, and the Bad Boys must take on an explosive mission in order to disprove this.

The film sees the first proper return to the screen for actor Will Smith following that Oscars moment in which he slapped Chris Rock.

Whilst the first two Bad Boys films were directed by Michael Bay, the last film in the series, as well as this one, were directed by Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi.

The directors, in an interview with Collider, said they plan on taking this film in a 'funky' direction.

Columbia Pictures

They said: "With Jerry Bruckheimer movies, we always tend to think about all the action and the crazy explosions. But actually, it’s the characters of his movies that are the reason why the audience loves to watch them.

"Sometimes we had some funky moments and funky shots that we didn’t try on the last one because it was maybe a little more classical. This time, we go more funky and more loco on this one.”

The directors have been involved in their own controversy separate to Will Smith, as the pair directed Batgirl, which ended up being put on permanent hold by Warner Brothers for tax reasons, despite being finished.

Despite this though, Bad Boys: Ride or Die looks like another incredible instalment in the franchise.

As well as Lawrence and Smith, the trailer shows a first look at the returning Vanessa Hudgens and Alexander Ludwig, who both debuted in Bad Boys For Life.

They will be joined in the cast by Eric Dane, Paola Núñez, Rhea Seehorn, Tasha Smith, and Ioan Gruffudd.

Commenting previously in 2020, Lawrence spoke about the time that has passed between the first two Bad Boys movies and the characters' comebacks in 2020.

"When we did the first two Bad Boys, we were young, we could run fast, we could jump higher," he told Entertainment Weekly. "On Bad Boys for Life, we just rely on the stuntmen a lot more."

More to come.
