Cameron Boyce's mother has opened up about her late son's relationship with Adam Sandler, following his Happy Gilmore 2 tribute.

The actor passed away in 2019 at the age of 20 following complications after suffering an epileptic seizure in his sleep. His death was determined to have been caused by a rare condition known as sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP).

Prior to his death, Boyce had enjoyed a promising career as a child actor, starring in Disney channel series Jessie as well as having roles in Sandler's comedy film Grown Ups and sequel, Grown Ups 2.

Sandler paid tribute to Boyce in his newest movie, Happy Gilmore 2, with his character seen approaching a check-in desk while one of the clerks is watching the late actor in an episode of Jessie.

The understated tribute didn't go unnoticed by Boyce's mother Libby, who has since reacted to the scene on social media and thanked Sandler for continuing to 'keep Cam's memory alive'.

Sharing a screenshot from The Hollywood Reporter on her Instagram, Libby revealed the pair had been in contact prior to Boyce's death and had even been in discussion to join the cast of Sandler's horror-comedy Hubie Halloween.

"Adam and Cameron talked quite a bit in the days leading up to his death. Cameron was supposed to be in Hubie Halloween and they were strategising," she wrote.

"They had a bond I think related to being authentic, funny and just keeping it real.

"Adam always finds a way to keep Cams memory alive which warms our heart."

Hubie Halloween was ultimately released in 2020 on Netflix, with Karan Brar taking over Boyce's role of Mike Mundi. Sandler, Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta and Rob Schneider also starred in the film, which featured a tribute to Boyce during the credits.

"In loving memory of Cameron Boyce. Gone way too soon and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew. You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed every day," the tribute read.

Libby went on to make a second post about her son's Happy Gilmore 2 cameo the following day, sharing a clip from the film alongside the caption: "Thank you @adamsandler for honouring Cam’s legacy."

Fans were also touched by Sandler's continued dedication to preserving Boyce's memory.

"Was absolutely beautiful to see a tribute to cam in this movie," wrote one person underneath the image, while a second added: "He really did care about Cam, Adam cares about everyone he works with, he is just a genuine guy and I’ve always found it admirable that he mentions Cam."
