A major update has been given on the possibility of a Harry Potter reunion film after J.K. Rowling had said she’d ‘never forgive’ Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint.
Talks of a reunion or sequel Harry Potter film of some sort are at an all-time high in recent weeks, leading many to wonder if the main trio would ever return.
This is largely due to the upcoming HBO TV reboot of the series, which is promised to be a more faithful and closer adaptation of the beloved books.
This looks like even more of a possibility, too, after today’s announcement that Warwick Davis would be the first of the original cast to return for the show, playing Professor Flitwick again after 14 years, leading many to hope that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, or Rupert Grint may be looking to come back to the iconic roles.

Whilst Davis is willing to step back into the wizarding world for the new show, however, tensions between J.K. Rowling and the main trio of actors from the films have been a major obstacle.

This originated from various controversial statements made by Rowling regarding the transgender community.
This led Watson, Grint, and Radcliffe to speak out against her, with Radcliffe saying in a statement that ‘transgender women are women’ and any statement contrary to that is wrong.
He then added: “To all the people who now feel that their experience of the books has been tarnished or diminished, I am deeply sorry for the pain these comments have caused you.”

Following the publication of the Cass Review, a highly criticised independent review into gender identity services provided by the NHS, she hit out at the trio.
When asked if it was ‘safe to say’ that she would accept an apology from Radcliffe and Watson after this, she posted on X: “Not safe, I'm afraid.

"Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women's hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces."
In an interview with The Atlantic, Radcliffe said the fallout made him 'really sad', but added that he didn't 'owe' the author anything just because of the success of the film franchise.

Now, the director of the first two Harry Potter films, Chris Columbus, has spoken about the possibility of a reunion, stating that it will ‘never happen’.
He spoke to The Times UK in an interview after previously stating that he had an interest in making a film version of The Cursed Child, a Harry Potter sequel stage play set 19 years after Deathly Hallows, which sees the main trio return.
He said of this: “It’s never going to happen. It’s gotten so complicated with all the political stuff. Everyone in the cast has their own opinion, which is different from her opinion, which makes it impossible.”

He went on to say that he still has a ‘great relationship’ with 'all the kids in the cast'; however, he hasn’t spoken to Rowling in years, so he said he has 'no idea what’s going on with her'.

The director added: "I keep very close contact with Daniel Radcliffe and I just spoke to him a few days ago."
Columbus revealed in another interview that he would not be returning for the upcoming HBO show.
Despite this though, he has been outspoken about recently released set pictures of Nick Frost as Hagrid, saying: “Nick Frost is wearing the exact same costume that we designed for Hagrid.
“Part of me was like: ‘What’s the point?’ I thought the costumes and everything were going to be different, but it’s more of the same. It’s all going to be the same”.
