Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio are teaming up for a new Karate Kid movie

Wax on, Wax off!

Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio are reuniting for another Karate Kid movie.

The duo dropped a new video announcing a reboot, revealing they're looking for the 'next Karake Kid'.

Sony Pictures will distribute the film, and it is slated for a 2024 release.

While there's no further announcements of the upcoming project, news of a reboot alone sent the internet into a frenzy.

One person wrote: "OMG SO EXCITED!!! Childhood dreams realised, Jackie Chan is the goat."

Another said: "I literally can’t believe that they’re connecting the two Karate Kid movies together. Maybe Jackie Chan will appear in Cobra Kai Season six to set up the movie."

A third commented: "I get teary eyes every time I watch this movie from start to finish. I love it."

While another shared: "It's great that they're choosing to hire an unknown actor for this part and not just opting for another nepo."

The Karate Kid is a popular American martial arts drama film released in 1984.

Columbia Pictures

The movie, directed by John G. Avildsen, starred Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, a teenager who moves to a new town and learns karate from Mr Miyagi, played by Pat Morita, to defend himself against bullies at school.

The film follows the relationship between Daniel and Mr Miyagi, who becomes Daniel's mentor and teaches him important life lessons aside from self-defence.

The success of the film spawned a couple of sequels, including The Karate Kid Part II (1986) and The Karate Kid Part III (1989).

In 2010, Jackie Chan starred in the remake alongside Jaden Smith and it was both commercially and critically acclaimed.

However, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz breathed new life into the franchise several years later when their show Cobra Kai premiered in 2018.

The series takes place decades after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, with a middle-aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence finding themselves martial arts rivals once again.
