Keanu Reeves makes concerning personal admission about future of the John Wick franchise

Keanu Reeves has opened up about the possibility of a fifth John Wick movie, and he's been brutally honest.

The Matrix actor who barely looks a day over 40 has played the legendary assassin five times (in four films and in an upcoming spin-off) since the debut movie in 2014.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, a retired hitman named John Wick is forced to come out of retirement after Russian gangsters kill a puppy gifted to him by his late wife.

Seeking revenge, Wick turns into a brutal killing machine and pretty much destroys anything and anyone in his path.

Because the first film did so well, they made three more, along with upcoming spin-off Ballerina, due to come out next year.

But while he appears to have Jackie Chan's martial arts skills and James Bond's license to kill on screen, Reeves is newly 60 and his body doesn't work as well as it used to.

Not only that, but Wick actually dies in the last film on the steps of Sacré-Cœur in Paris.

Well, when recently asked on CBS Mornings about the chances of playing John Wick again, he replied: "You can never say never."

Instead of stopping though, he admitted: "But my knees right now are saying, 'You can’t do another John Wick'. So, my heart does, but I don’t know if my knees can do it."

Although Reeves has his doubts, John Wick: Chapter 4 was actually the franchise's highest-grossing film, doing about $440.1 million (£346.48 million) worldwide.

Meanwhile, Stahelski has remained a little more hopeful of the idea of a fifth movie.

"The honest truth is you don’t [top John Wick: Chapter 4]. You simply don’t," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "There’s no topping what we did. That’s the end. That’s the deal.

"That’s what we found closure for. Look, sometimes, we’ll keep things in development. Sometimes, we’ll use development as an exercise, but is there an opportunity to do [John Wick 5]?

"Of course, there is, whether it’s for money or for creativity. Jesus, in the last three years, I’ve already had three or four versions of a John Wick 5.

"They were different ways to crack the story, but it’s almost a mental exercise for me."

He added: "It would not be part of that [John Wick: Chapter 4] storyline. It would not be what you would think it is. As far as [John Wick: Chapter 4], we’ve peaked. At least, I have. That’s my apex.

"We ended it. It’s a complete story. I watch it now, and I feel very happy about it, but we wouldn’t try to outdo it. We wouldn’t try to add on to that. It’d have to be a completely different storyline."
