Margot Robbie thought she was 'going to jail' while filming scene with Leonardo DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street

Margot Robbie may be known the world over for playing Barbie in 2023's summer blockbuster, but before that she was the female lead in The Wolf of Wall Street.

Robbie starred opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2013 film, which went on to be nominated for several Oscars.

The role proved to be monumental for the Australian actress, with it catapulting her into stardom - and of course, everybody remembers that nursery scene.

But it turns out that another scene has played on Robbie's mind in the years following the film's success.

Whilst appearing on the Talking Pictures podcast, the actress recalled a moment where she was convinced she was going to get in trouble... and not just being told off by director Martin Scorsese.

Legal trouble, we mean.

It came during a scene in which she was to kiss Jordan Belfort, played by DiCaprio.

She recalled: "I could totally kiss Leonardo DiCaprio, and that would be awesome. I can’t wait to tell all of my friends this.

“And then I thought… nah. And just walloped him in the face. It was dead silence for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds.

"Then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard, they said ‘that was great'."

But Robbie didn't quite see it that way.

She recalled thinking at the time: "I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure that’s assault, battery. Not only will you never work again, actually you will go to jail for this, you idiot. And also why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have done it lighter."

We've all had those moments where we did something impulsive only to regret it instantly. But for most of us, that translates into overthinking it for the rest of our lives.

For Robbie, it was the launchpad into a Hollywood career of films like Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Babylon, I Tonya and Barbie. Go figure.

Not that all her flicks have been well received with audiences.

She had to come out to bat for Babylon, in which she starred alongside Brad Pitt, after it was skewered by viewers.

On the Talking Pictures podcast, Robbie said: "I know I am biased because I am very close to the project and I obviously believe in it, but I still can’t figure out why people hated it.

"I wonder if in 20 years people are going to be like, ‘Wait, Babylon didn’t do well at the time?’ Like when you hear that Shawshank Redemption was a failure at the time and you’re like like, ‘How is that possible?’"
