There is only one film from the 21st century to make it onto Letterboxd's 'top 10 movies of all time' list, and you probably won't be too surprised when you hear what it is.

Now, as many film buffs will know, Letterboxd is a haven for cinephiles to share their opinions on films and connect with fellow film fans from around the world.

The website features reviews for more than 876,000 films and some are certainly more popular than others.

Included in the highest-rated films on the site are classics such as The Godfather (1972) and The Shawshank Redemption (1994), with an average rating of 4.6 out of five for both movies.

These films have stood the test of time to earn their spots on the list of the 'greatest films of all time' - they also take the top two spots on IMDb's top movies - attracting generation after generation of viewers.

Other highly rated films on Letterboxd - boasting scores of just below five stars - include the likes of 1961's The Human Condition III: A Soldier's Prayer, High and Low (1963) and The Godfather: Part II (1974).

The top three consisted of 12 Angry Men, Come and See and Harakiri.

But one, far more recent flick has managed to hold its own amongst the greats and muscle its way into the site's top 10.

Released in 2019, South Korean black comedy/thriller Parasite sees members of the struggling Kim family insinuate themselves one by one into the household staff of a wealthy couple, where they become greedy and start living a parasitic life.

Bong Joon-ho's searing critique on the ever-widening class divide happening in South Korea was instantly met with both critical acclaim and box office success.

It scooped four Academy Awards including Best Director for Joon-ho and Best Film - the first non-English-language film in history to do so.

It was also the first Korean film to win a Palm d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Parasite has earned itself an impressive rating of 4.6 on Letterboxd, placing it at number eight in the rankings.

It also currently holds the record for being the most-watched film on the site, with more than 3.6 million members having watched it - a pretty strong endorsement, we must say.

One user applauded the attention to the 'little details' in the film, as another wrote: "Our expectations were high but HOLY F***."

A third said: "Easily, without a doubt, the best hook of 2019," while a fourth asked: "A question to people who rate this 4.5: what more do you want, literally what more do you want?"

And another review read: "Yup....... this is the best movie that has ever been f***ing made."

Parasite can be watched on Netflix in the UK now.
