Peaky Blinders’ cultural impact is absolutely mega and not just restricted to the UK.
The iconic franchise is loved globally but with the film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, now available on Netflix, it’s come to an end after over 12 years.
Well, somewhat of an end anyway – we’re getting a sequel series, but it won’t feature OGs like the legend Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy).
And while the actor has spent a ‘quarter of his lifetime’ on Peaky, there are some things he absolutely won’t miss about it. That includes the ‘disgusting’ haircut he sported under his iconic flat cap despite it being the UK’s ‘biggest from the last decade’.

The Peaky Blinders trim is just one example of the show’s influence, as barbers everywhere were inundated with requests for The Shelby.
The iconic Shelby trim
While it might be rare nowadays, London barber TJ Hunt told GQ: “There was a period where I was doing probably two of these things a day – 10 a week or something like that.”
He added: “I mentioned it to a couple of the guys in the shop, and we were saying, it's so rare that a haircut from pop culture has that much reaction.”
Vitally the trim has no fade, no blend and a side-parted mop right on the top. Essentially, it created a wartime cut that could be completely covered up with a soldier’s helmet, with all the sides and back shaved right down to the skin.
And while it probably wouldn’t be fashionable now otherwise, Peaky Blinders made it the go-to cut when the show was on. Barbers say it is pretty ‘extreme’, with Hunt saying he’d offer a ‘toned down version’ because it was quite a ‘strong’ cut.
Barbershop pro, co-founder of Supply 91, Maxwell Oakley added: “The impact of that [style], I reckon, is probably the biggest from the last decade in the UK, from the haircut side of things.”
I mean, the only thing I can possibly think to compare it to is when lads were getting the Justin Bieber cut as 'Baby' did the rounds and, well, pretended it wasn’t because of the Biebs.

But Murphy won’t miss it, having explained why it’s actually ‘disgusting’
Wrapping up his time in the Peaky universe with the film, the star told Rotten Tomatoes that ‘the haircut’ is the thing he’s ‘excited he’ll never have to do again’.
He previously explained the truth behind why Tommy Shelby had this now iconic haircut.
Murphy said while appearing on The Graham Norton Show: "I mean, it's so disgusting really.
"You know the story behind that is it's to prevent lice infestation."
And while that leaves the confusion while there was still a decent mop of hair on his head for those lice to settle in, he added: “You get like a 60 percent better chance of not getting them, I guess.”
Acknowledging that people would go and ask their barber for a ‘Peaky cut’, Murphy reckons it should be called a ‘lice cut’.
“It’s crazy that people like it, it’s not grown on me in four years now,” he told Shortlist back in 2017.
“But do they realise, the people in turtlenecks in Hackney with this haircut, do they realise it was styled this way to prevent lice? Tell ’em they’ve got the lice cut, see what they say then.”
