With Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man releasing tomorrow the majority of fans will actually have still not been able to see the movie.

The Peaky Blinders film was released in cinemas, however the short release window for the movie meant that it wasn’t shown in any of the UK’s three biggest cinema chains and numerous cities had no screenings of the film.

For fans watching the film for the first time at home though this is a culmination of 13 years of story told over 36 hours of TV and a two-hour film. All that is to say: if you’re going to finish the story of Tommy Shelby after all that time, you should be doing it with the best possible view.

Although you may not realise it, the way your TV is shipped to you is not actually anywhere near the best way to experience visually beautiful films such as The Immortal Man.

Speaking exclusively to LADbible, tech experts Smart Home Sounds explained the major changes that Peaky Blinders fans need to make to their TV before watching the movie this weekend.

Motion smoothing is your enemy – turn it off to get the best view of Tommy Shelby

If you ask almost any TV and Film buff what you should do to make films look better at home, the first answer is almost always to turn down motion smoothing.

This effect is mostly intended for watching live sports as it makes objects that move so fast, they blur appear smoother.

According to a spokesperson for Smart Home Sounds however, you should be turning this all the way. They said: “It works by adding extra frames between the real ones to make movement look smoother, but when pushed too far it can make films and dramas look unnaturally slick - the effect many people describe as the soap opera effect.

“For Netflix films and TV series, motion smoothing is usually best kept off or on a low setting so the picture still feels cinematic.”

The TV’s picture mode is one of the easiest fixes and whilst ‘eco-mode’ saves energy, if you want the best experience, you should turn it off

Whilst this may sound simple so many people don’t do it – your TV likely has a mode which can be set to some form of movie or cinema mode. Naturally your TV will likely be set to a standard mode which can look ‘overly harsh, too saturated and less natural than it should’ according to Smart Home Sounds.

Similarly, whilst it may be more environmentally friendly ‘eco-mode’ can massively affect the quality. Their spokesperson said that ‘if your TV looks dimmer than expected or the brightness seems to shift on its own’, it’s probably eco mode.

If you’re watching through an Apple TV stick, Xbox, or anything using an HDMI cable, you may be losing out on the best quality

Unless you’re using a smart TV with built in Netflix, many of us sitting down to watch the Peaky Blinders movie through a device connected to our TVs with an HDMI cable.

As explains the spokesperson for Smart Home Sounds however you can be leaving quality on the table by doing this and not changing the HDMI input to an ‘enhanced’ format.

They explained: “On many models, HDMI ports default to a Standard or Compatibility mode, which is there to make sure older devices still work properly. The downside is that this can limit the signal quality, meaning you may not get the full benefit of HDR, higher frame rates or the best colour performance.”

All in all, if you want the best experience watching Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man at home this weekend, make sure to follow these, or go to their YouTube channel to see more tips.
