Brie Bella hospitalised after 'pretty bad' injury at WWE SummerSlam

Although WWE events might well be scripted and pre-determined, it doesn't mean that they are always 100 per cent safe.

No matter how many times you practice throwing other people on the floor or jumping on them from the ropes, it's still probably going to hurt a little bit.

We might have seen John Cena fight for the final time but I've just learned that Rey Mysterio is still going, which suggests that the best in the business can have a long career in the business.

However, during Saturday night's SummerSlam, professional wrestler Brie Bella suffered the sort of injury which might keep her out for some time.

The WWE Hall of Famer, was injured in the six-person tag team match with sister Nikki and Paige against Fatal Influence during a fight on Saturday night and was seen clutching her shoulder for the rest of the event.

Following the fight, WWE chief content officer Paul 'Triple H' Levesque said: ”Don’t have a clean answer on it yet. I know she hurt her shoulder. Seems pretty bad, but I don’t have that answer yet. Hopefully we will soon, and hopefully it won’t be as bad as we thought it was, but that’s the nature of the game.

“It’s unfortunately part of our business.

He added: “I don’t have an update yet. She was here, got some treatment here [and] has been taken to the hospital to get some scans done.”

Although Brie has not yet addressed the incident publicly, it will undoubtedly come as a huge blow for her considering she admitted earlier this week that this was likely her 'last run'.

She told US weekly: “This run has been unlike any run we’ve both have ever done. I feel so comfortable, and … when you’re so comfortable, and I’m looking at this as, ‘I’m not gonna lie to myself. I’m not in denial. This is my last run.

“It’s, like, you’re gonna go out there and you’re gonna have fun. I’m gonna make sure I take more moments having fun with the audience and looking at them because I don’t know if it’s the last time I’ll be wrestling in the city.”

She also spoke about going up the villainous trio of Fatal Influence and the tough challenge that they would pose, although she probably didn't imagine that she'd leave the match with a serious looking shoulder injury.

Brie said: “These women are driven, they’re strong, they’re capable of so many things. Then, you put their personalities on top. It’s why they’re moving fast and they’re making names for themselves, and it’s going to be a tough match at SummerSlam because we are looking at our younger selves. We’re seeing these girls, and they’re not going to give up and they’re going to make a name. We love it.”
