When discussing the most shocking films of all time, A Serbian Film is always one of the first names on the list.

The ‘depraved’ horror film is a truly disturbing watch, leading to the movie being banned in 46 different countries and even saw someone arrested for screening it.

A Serbian Film focuses on an ageing porn star who agrees to appear in one last film but after signing on discovers that its actually the most f*cked up snuff film you’ve ever seen.

When you think about making films like A Serbian Film, Human Centipede, or Terrifier however it’s easy to forget that for a lot of people it’s just a job, and the behind-the-scenes is far less depraved than the actual film itself.

A Serbian Documentary was released last year and the documentary covers the story of how the movie came to be made.

Created by Stephen Biro’s Unearthed Films, Biro became close friends with the movie’s director Srdjan Spasojeviċ for a bizarre reason.

Speaking to Metro, Biro said that he met Spasojeviċ at a convention and discovered he had been being ‘ripped off’ and agreed to help him sue people taking money from him for the film.

Over the course of this Biro acquired 162 hours of behind-the-scenes footage shot on set, leading him to create the documentary.

Speaking about the making of the film, Biro said: “Srdjan and I went through 162 hours of footage behind-the-scenes, and there were some shots where an actor would look pissed and they’re yelling, but they were complaining about soccer or a cheeseburger.

“It was just a normal film set. I enjoyed that they all became a family and tried to have as much fun as possible.”

In addition to this, Biro specifically mentioned that he was given the prosthetics of people’s heads and bodies, including ‘the baby’ from the film.

This once again puts to bed a long-held conspiracy theory tied to the film.

A Serbian Film is a depraved film for a multitude of reasons tied to what goes on in the film, but a horrific long held rumour claimed that the scene in which the lead character is made to rape a baby was filmed using a real baby.

Spasojeviċ has denied this in the past, insisting a doll was used, and explaining the explicit sexual violence in the film.

In an exclusive interview with LADbible he said that the intent of that scene was to show the vulnerability of the notion of ‘family’, saying: “Humankind failed to create a nice place on this planet... when you have a family, it cannot survive on its own, it cannot win that battle - a family is influenced by everything around it.”

Spasojeviċ previously said of the scene: “They f*ck you when you’re born, they f*ck you when you’re alive, they f*ck you when you die in our country, because you always owe something to somebody.”
