Tie-in merchandise has become a massive part of the American moviegoer experience ever since the viral Dune popcorn bucket and its unfortunately accident NSWF design.
It’s hard to find a film coming out these days without one, with the new Jackass film creating a popcorn bucket the size of Wee Man to buy as limited-edition merch.
Now, Supergirl has joined in with the party, the latest DC film which is continuing James Gunn’s successful revitalisation of the franchise post-Superman.
Red carpet events are usually pretty uneventful affairs, but Supergirl World Premiere was surprisingly newsworthy, with a clip of Superman actor David Corenswet being forced to step in after a photographer touched Milly Alcock’s back going viral.

This was not the only viral moment spawned from the red carpet however, with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult both reacting to the viral Supergirl AMC cup which has gone viral for its unfortunately phallic look.
The Supergirl cup has gone viral for its… unfortunate look
The Supergirl cup faces a key problem: Not just looking like a Superman cup they’ve wheeled back out from storage a year later.
This was achieved by AMC adding a jacket to the Supergirl crest that she wears throughout this movie.
That jacket looks pretty fine from the front, but when viewed from the back or side there is only one way to describe it. It looks like a penis.
One tweet mocking the cup simply said: “Yeah man can I get the Supergirl cup with extra foreskin.”
Another fan replied to this, saying: “Do you ever see something and think “this was created and approved by actual professionals….”
David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult were shown the cup on the Supergirl red carpet
When a cup such as this one goes viral, you can be certain that eventually one journalist will be brave enough to put it in front of one of the stars on a red carpet, and this ended up being Entertainment Tonight.
Their reporter joked with the pair that you’ve ‘made it’ when you get AMC merch, and whilst Hoult had seen the cup before, laughing at being asked about it, Corenswet is seen reacting to it for the first time.

He jokes: “I don’t like that one bit… I don’t understand, and I don’t think I want it explained.”
One fan quote tweeted the video, simply saying: “Would’ve looked so much better without the jacket.”
All in all, I think we can agree that next time any executive creates a popcorn bucket or cup they should ask a very simple question: does it look like a willy?
