Superman fans make iconic discovery after former actor brands new film 'woke'

The most woke thing of all: Arguably the most famously American character of all time

With the release of a new Superman film coming to theatres, many have been left curious about the opinions of the previous actors who have played the role.

Across the years, there have been a whopping nine different actors to take it on, six of whom are still alive, with David Corenswet the latest to don the cape.

While Henry Cavill is yet to speak publicly about the project since leaving the role weeks after being announced to be returning, he has been privately supportive of Corenswet, according to the actor.

However, one other star to take on the role has seemingly been less supportive, branding the new film ‘woke’.

This catch-all term, used to essentially describe anything conservatives don’t like, is now being turned towards the ultimate American symbol, Superman.

Dean Cain, the actor who played Superman in the 90s TV show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, slammed the new movie directed by James Gunn and co-staring Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult.

Despite this though, fans have come across an iconic video which proves that Cain is slightly hypocritical in his criticism.

Cain made the comment following quotes from Gunn saying that ‘Superman is the story of America’.

Gunn told The Times: “An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me it is mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.”

The new Superman, traditionally the story of an alien who crash lands in the United States before his parents’ fake papers to make him appear American, is the latest example of Hollywood going ‘woke’, according to Cain.

Cain, a vocal Trump supporter who now works as a reserve cop and infomercial presenter, said to TMZ: “How woke is Hollywood going to make this character?

“How much is Disney going to change their Snow White? Why are they going to change these characters [to] exist for the times.”

He then went on to make a bizarre rant about how, while he knows Superman is an immigrant because he’s an alien, you ‘can’t come in saying I want to get rid of all the rules in America, because I want it to be more like Somalia’.

This rant was hilariously skewered online by fans who posted a clip from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in which Cain’s Superman is grilled by reporters about his immigration status.

This is set up by a villain by the name of Mason Capwell in the show and the clip posted to X had fans in stitches.

One fan responded: “It's like he has no memory at all of filming this show. Or he's just saying this sh*t for attention to stay relevant because outlets always report on it when he does. Most likely the latter.”

Another said: “The stupid moron doesn't even know anything about the character he portrayed on tv for years.”

Despite Cain’s claim that Superman is woke, the new film has so far been a massive success.

As well as setting Rotten Tomatoes records, the movie is set to open to over $200 million worldwide.

Superman is available to watch in cinemas now.
