Ever had those horrific nightmares that seem to play the same, terrifying scenario over and over again until you wake up a sweat-covered, fear-stricken mess? Well, for the characters in Sony Pictures’ must-see new horror film Until Dawn, that nightmare is reality.

Based on the beloved video game of the same name and directed by David F. Sandberg — the brain behind iconic horror classics like Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, Until Dawn hits cinemas April 24. The movie centres around protagonist Clover (played by Ella Rubin) who, a year after the mysterious disappearance of her sister Melanie, goes searching for answers with her friends in a remote valley. Never a good idea.

When they stumble upon an abandoned visitor centre, they realise that they are not alone. There’s a masked killer on the loose, and he’s hunting them one by one. But, after the bloodbath, Clover and friends wake up only to realise that they’re still at the centre and back at the beginning of the same evening, but each time they’re more battered, bruised and worn down by the night before.

They’re trapped, and have no obvious routes of escaping the valley or this horror-filled night. Clover and co. are forced to relive, and re-die, their own murders night after night. But, each time the threat is different, scarier and more blood-thirsty than the one before it. Imagine waking up every day knowing you were going to die before day’s end, but the ways in which you meet your end get progressively more gruesome. Ooft.

With the situation obviously dire, the gang realises that they only have a limited number of deaths left before it’s game over for good. With no options left, they have no choice but to try and survive until dawn.

Until Dawn is an intense and visceral viewing experience — perfect for you to bring your friends along and revel in shared adrenaline. With a different killer threat each night, you’ll be on the edge of your seat guessing just how the protagonists’ will meet their end, and what form the killer will take. It’s the most high-stakes guessing game you’ll ever see — completely with the pin-drop suspense and all-consuming scares you’ve come to expect from a visionary like Sandberg.

With a cast including Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Peter Stormare, and Aussie Maia Mitchell, Until Dawn is an intense, cinematic horror thrill-ride that you won't want to miss.

So grab your mates, popcorn and tickets to see Until Dawn in cinemas April 24.
