The Foo Fighters have completed a clean sweep at the 64th Grammy Awards, in what will likely be a bittersweet moment for the band.

They took out Best Rock Performance for 'Making a Fire', Best Rock Song for 'Waiting On a War' and Best Rock Album for Medicine at Midnight.

The wins bring the Foo Fighters' total Grammy haul over their career to 15.

It will no doubt be a difficult time for the band as the glitzy awards show comes a little more than a week after the tragic death of the band's drummer Taylor Hawkins.

The band confirmed the death of the 50-year-old musician in a statement on 26 March.

They were in the middle of their tour of South America and had been due to perform at the Estereo Picnic festival the night before.

However, they pulled out shortly before the news broke, informing fans via a statement on the stage screens.

In a post to their social channels, they said they were 'devastated by the tragic and untimely loss' of Hawkins.

A post to Twitter read: "The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins.

"His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.

"Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time."

The cause of death currently remains unknown, however, investigators issued a statement on describing the discovery of the drugs, which included antidepressants.

The Foo Fighters have since cancelled their remaining tour dates as they come to terms with the sudden death.

A post to Twitter read: "It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins.

"We're sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won't be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let's take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we've made together.

"With Love, Foo Fighters."

Hawkins, who joined Foo Fighters in 1997, is survived by his wife, Alison, and their three children. The pair have been married since 2005.
