Friday Night Dinner creator shares hilarious unseen script of Jim coming to dinner

The script sparked plenty of reaction on social media.

After running for six seasons and winning a series of awards, Friday Night Dinner is one of Britain’s best-loved comedies.

The sitcom centred around the regular dining experience of the Goodman fmaily every Friday night, and won plenty of plaudits during a stellar nine-year run, as the series reached its the conclusion at the end of the sixth series in 2021.

Among the accolades included a posthumous BAFTA nomination for the late Paul Ritter, who passed away due to a brain tumour in April last year.

Now series creator Robert Popper has revealed a brilliant script of Jim coming to dinner that was never used. Popper even admitted in a tweet that he had no recollection of even writing the script.

That did not stop fans nostalgically reminiscing about the show and their best memories of Jim.

One said: “My 6yr old loves Jim & started off doing a very passable impression of him. Only problem is, he now speaks like him ALL OF THE TIME, even in school.

“A problem all of my own making.”

Another user, @Simping4F said: “I could hear this entire conversation. Hell, I could visualize this whole scene!

“I love FND so much.”

Meanwhile, @AndyMarsh82 added: “All of their voices just played out in my mind,” with three love heart emojis

While the British version of the show may have finished, further details have emerged about the American series called Dinner With The Parents.

Details of what the show will entail are still sketchy, but filming is due to start later this year and a synopsis has been released.

It read: "In this half-hour single camera comedy, two brothers in their 20s who go to their mom and dad’s for dinner each week, somehow get through it without actually, physically, dying of embarrassment.

"If your 54-year-old dad has ever 'dabbed' while shirtless in front of your girlfriend, or your mom won’t stop bringing up that time when you had to be rushed to the pediatrician after an incident with a shampoo bottle, which is why your brother still calls you 'Pert Plus', you will relate to this show. If not, must be nice!"

It has been revealed that Dinner With The Parents will be available to watch in the UK on Amazon Freevee, which you can stream through Prime Video.
