Hell-Based Horror Video Game 'Agony' To Be Released In May 2018

If you're a gamer who likes a good fright, the chances are you are already aware of Kickstarter funded video game Agony.

If you're not aware, it is a horror game that is based entirely in hell. Described as 'a trip into madness in the most terrifying vision of hell in the history of gaming', the developers Madmind Studio have spared no expense on making the game as horrible as possible.

The problem so far has been that they have had to push back the release dates on several occasions. The game was originally scheduled to come out earlier on 30 March, but was pushed back basically because it was too gross.

Now it looks like it will finally come out on 29 May on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This is only after several compromises have been made with the censorship board.

Sections of the game were deemed too awful to be put out without a rating of AO (Adults Only) which would have meant that the game couldn't come out on consoles. In order to keep the promise that they made to Kickstarter supporters to bring it out on consoles as well as PC they had to get the rating down to M (Mature).

This meant toning it back a bit.

Madmind said: "In order to be able to publish the game, we had to make some compromises. Otherwise, we would have had to delete the whole project and never release it.

"With that in mind, we have spent a lot of time to make sure that censorship will not affect the perception of the game."

The good news (depending on which way you look at it) is that if you buy the game for your PC you will still be able to get the full experience. They are releasing the same game across all platforms, but you will be able to download a patch for your computer that restores the game to its intended hellish extremes.

They wanted to do this for consoles too, but were told that they couldn't. Don't worry if you've pre-paid for a console version on Kickstarter. An update will give you the option to switch to PC if you so desire.

The game will see players attempting to battle their way out of hell and learning the - presumably - disturbing truth behind a character called 'The Red Goddess'. Not a great deal is known about the plot, but it'll be bloody scary, and just plain bloody.
