Call of Duty update leaves fans fuming at 'broken' feature

Is there anything worse in the gaming world than an update that leaves the game feeling buggy?

In the world of gaming there's nothing quite as frustrating as your favourite game having a patch update and boom - it's gone all buggy.

That's exactly what has happened to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 according to those who play the 2023 first person shooter.

Ever since the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare way back in 2007, the Call of Duty universe has been firmly lodged among the top gaming brands.

Through the Modern Warfare sequels and the introduction of the Black Ops sub-series, it's a brand that's sold more than 400 million copies since the very first game back in 2003.

Central to the continued success of COD is its multiplayer mode.

Let's face it, while most of us might enjoy the campaign gameplay the real mecca of the COD world is playing online with your mates on different game modes.

The premise is simple, kill your opponent and don't get killed. You do that, you're more likely to win whatever mode you're playing whether that's Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All or Search and Destroy.

One of the perks of going on a good run of downing your enemy and staying alive has been killstreaks.

They've been around since the days of COD4 and World at War but since then became customisable.

On those games you got rewards at three, five and seven kills, receiving a UAV, airstrike and an attack helicopter, respectively.

The arrival of Modern Warfare 2 back on the Xbox 360 and PS3 saw you able to choose what you liked, with the introduction of the predator missile a firm fan-favourite.

Now known as the cruise missile, you get the reward for taking down six enemies without dying yourself.

The problem right now is that the cruise missile isn't quite working.

Following a recent patch on 2023's Modern Warfare 3, players are reporting that they can't control the missile when launching it. The update came on 21 February.

Multiplayer mode is incredibly popular.

One X user said: "It's been broken for a few days and I wasted 10 cruise missiles because of it."

A second wrote: "Every time I get my predator missile kill streak, I launch it and then I can’t steer it and it just hits some random place off the map."

A third added: "It just veers north and you can't direct the f*****r."

Over on Reddit, one user posted: "Did the latest update break the cruise missiles? I can’t control them since they updated everything. I can still boost it but I can steer it.”

Activision, which makes the game, has been contacted for comment on when it might be fixed.
