While Grand Theft Auto 6 looks set to break new records in the entertainment industry almost a decade after its prequel, rumours suggest it's going to cost Rockstar Games an eye-watering amount before it even hits the shelves.
According to industry insiders, the long-awaited sequel, which is expected to land on 26 May 2026, costing its developers a hefty $2 billion by the time its complete, making it the most expensive video game of all time.
Not only that, but people have been quick to point out that it will have cost more than the construction of the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa.
While it might seem like a bit of an odd comparison, the Burj Khalifa broke multiple world records upon its completion in early 2010, when it was officially named the tallest building in the world with the most floors in a building at an impressive 163 stories.

As well as several more world records, the Burj Khalifa cost an astonishing $1.5 billion to build over six years, and it still stands as one of the top 20 most expensive buildings in the world a decade and a half later.
So, given the Burj Khalifa's prominence, tied with its huge expense, people are understandably pretty baffled by the fact the newest instalment of GTA is expected to cost 25 percent more.
If you're wondering whether its even worth Rockstar Games spending such a gigantic sum of money on one game, its reported that GTA 6 will make a colossal $7.2 billion within the first two months after its release - though some have called this figure into question.

Forbes has quite rightly pointed out that Rockstar would need to sell around 95 million copies of the video game, if the suggested price point of around $80 is correct, in order to hit that figure.
For context, it took five years for GTA 5 to sell 100 million copies, so to achieve this in two months would make history, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't happen.
While the appetite for the new GTA is undeniably huge, there are limitations in the fact that it is only releasing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, which not all fans of the franchise have the luxury of having access to.
Controversially, there will be no PlayStation 4 or PC versions, and it will not be on Switch.
