After over a decade of development GTA 6 is now just a couple weeks away from becoming a reality for gamers worldwide, and newly released screenshots have sent fans into a frenzy over what it could mean for one long-awaited feature.
GTA 6 is set to become the biggest open-world game ever (excluding infinite games like Minecraft) and will be almost double the size of the GTA 5 map and almost triple the size of Red Dead Redemption 2.
The game is so huge some figures have said it could save you as much as £5,000 in money you’d have otherwise spent going out, though it is a whopping 212 GB to download, so you will need to set up pre-load before you start playing.
Beyond the idea that you can throw dog poop at NPCs there are a bunch of other features they’ve added which have massively upped the realism in a way no other game has really attempted.
It may seem a minor feature – but fans have been calling for having to fill up your car with petrol in GTA for over a decade

The screenshot, part of a set of recently released new looks at GTA 6 from Rockstar, shows Jason at a petrol station in the process of filling up his car.
One fan posted it on a GTA subreddit, saying: “This screenshot tells SO MUCH about the game.”
Another comment exchange expressed confusion as to why fans would care if you can fill up your car or not, but a fan cleared up why this is being considered a fairly big deal. They explained: “I think people are excited. After RDR2, people know that realism doesn't need to be tedious when done right.
“Players are obviously looking forward to this and the many other realistic elements of the game.”

A third fan said: “What's interesting is that I originally assumed refueling would just be a quick scripted animation where Jason or Lucia gets out of the car, fills up the tank, and gets back in without you having any control.
“But looking at this screenshot, I'm starting to wonder if refueling might actually be something you can interact with in real time, especially if dynamic events can unfold while you're doing it.”
This in part was in reference to the fact that you can also tell just how sophisticated the AI in GTA 6 is going to be.
Police in the screenshot show just how smart the cops are going to be in GTA 6

In the background of the screenshot is one police officer seemingly sneaking up on Jason, something that initially confused fans until they realised: he’s stood next to a petrol station and the cops appear to be holding fire as a result.
One fan pointed out how this shows a seriously ‘sophisticated AI’, something which Rockstar have been open about for GTA 6.
It has already been confirmed that, unlike GTA V, the game will be a lot closer to Red Dead Redemption 2 in its approach to police. In the western version of the game you could ride away from the cops but there would remain a bounty on your head, with bounty hunters randomly showing up to try bring you in.
In GTA 6 however it takes things even further as you may have to change what you’re wearing to escape police. Witnesses or CCTV cameras may start building a description of a suspect, and in this case, you may need to change outfits in full to escape cops fully.
This will show up with icons under your wanted star level to share how much police will know about you.
All in all, GTA 6 looks set to be an incredibly realistic experience that takes what everyone loved about GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 and turns it up to 11.
GTA 6 releases 19 November, 2026 - we're almost there.
