GTA 6 just got a huge release date boost and gamers are starting to believe

Will GTA 6 be released sooner than we thought?

If you're a gamer, you've probably heard of Grand Theft Auto, unless of course you've been living under a rock.

Since the highly anticipated GTA VI - aka GTA 6 - was announced back in December 2023, marking over a decade since the last installment of the popular video game, it's pretty much all gamers have been talking about.

And naturally, lots of questions have been asked.

When will we see a new GTA 6 trailer? When can we expect to see some gameplay footage? And most importantly, when can we expect an announcement with a release date?

As reported by IGN.com, the company behind Borderlands and GTA have announced that Borderlands 4 will be releasing 11 days earlier than expected.

2K Games, the parent company of GTA's developer Rockstar, will be publishing Borderlands 4.

But what does that mean for fans waiting for news?

Of course, as always happens in the world of gaming, this has sparked a massive debate on what it means for Grand Theft Auto fans on Reddit.

On the r/GTA6 sub, many fans have pointed to this meaning a release date for GTA 6 this year, speculating that Take Two - which owns both 2K Games and Rockstar - are looking to move Borderlands to make room for GTA6, with /u/Neither_Principle_34 stating: "This makes more confident it’s coming out this year."

While others, like /u/Clancy3434, were quick to give much more detailed predictions of the games upcoming release date, saying 'somewhere between September 26 and October 24 - if we're assuming it drops on a Friday'.

Others were quick to shoot down theories, saying that people are looking too much into it and that the game will be ready when it is ready.

User /u/Planr158 even went as far as to say" "It’s a troll move. Take Two realized they could push the date up and figured announcing it would send the GTA community into it a conspiracy rabbit hole while also giving them some rub off the GTA VI hype."

Take-Two had already previously confirmed that GTA 6 will be going to market sometime in the autumn of 2025, meaning that we're likely to see the game somewhere within September, October, or November of this year.

But, with Borderlands 4 now being pushed forward, many fans are starting to think we should be expecting the game to see a release window in the earlier parts of autumn.

With major titles such as Take-Two's very own Borderlands 4, Mafia: The Old Country, and Ghost of Yōtei dropping this year, could Rockstar be looking to bring the game's date forward to improve sales and avoid any major clashes, or is it just a coincidence?

Either way, with fans begging for more and an ever closing window to the suspected release date, gamers are eager to start seeing a second GTA 6 trailer, as well as some actual gameplay footage.

Hopefully all signs point to something coming our way soon.
