Gaten Matarazzo had a hilarious reaction to the renaissance of 'Running Up That Hill'. Have a listen:

The fourth season of the sci-fi/horror has been a smash hit, with fans and critics raving about it.

But aside from Netflix, one of the big winners from its success has been pop icon Kate Bush, whose tune was pivotal to Max's (Sadie Sink) storyline.

As a result it shot up the charts, reaching number one in the UK.

And when asked about the track during his interview with Jimmy Fallon, Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson in the series, said he was particularly happy about it.

The 19-year-old told the host: "It's great for me, because it’s replaced NeverEnding Story. It's awesome."

Fans of the show will remember back in season three, in the episode 'The Battle of Starcourt', Dustin and his girlfriend Suzie belted out an iconic rendition of 'NeverEnding Story'.

Ever since, the actor has not been short of people to remind him of it - even performing a duet with Fallon during a previous appearance.

The teenager said the success of Running Up That Hill has taken the heat off him from his rendition of 'NeverEnding Story'.

However, he's finally found someone to take the heat from him.

Matarazzo went on: "It sucks for Sadie, yeah, but I'm in the clear for a bit."

The popularity has also provided a huge boost to Bush's bank balance.

Between 27 May and 23 June, the British singer reportedly earned $2.3 million (£1.87m) in streaming royalties - a figure that will no doubt rise even further over the coming days and weeks.

Rob Jonas, the CEO of Luminate, told CBS MoneyWatch that he had never seen anything like it.

He said: "While we've seen a notable increase in catalogue music streams in recent years — with an annual 20 percent growth alone in 2021— the Kate Bush story has taken the phenomenon to a new level."

In a post to her blog last week, Bush said she just couldn't believe the reaction.

Kate Bush's 1985 classic is pivotal to Max Mayfield's storyline this season.

She said: "Whoooo Hoooo everybody! I just can’t believe it - No. 1 for the third week. We’re all so excited! In fact it’s all starting to feel a bit surreal.

"I was so delighted that the Duffer Brothers wanted to use RUTH for Max’s totem but now having seen the whole of this last series, I feel deeply honoured that the song was chosen to become a part of their roller coaster journey.

"I can’t imagine the amount of hard work that’s gone into making something on this scale. I am in awe. They’ve made something really spectacular."

Stranger Things is available to watch on Netflix now.
