Hairy Bikers’ Si King shares update on Dave Myers’ cancer treatment

Hairy Bikers’ Si King shares update on Dave Myers’ cancer treatment

King said Myers’ is 'in the trenches' of his treatment after revealing his diagnosis in May and starting chemotherapy.

Hairy Bikers star Si King has given an update on his pal Dave Myers’ ongoing cancer treatment and revealed he is currently ‘in the trenches’.

The TV chef appeared at the Bolton Food and Drink Festival over the weekend where he shared news about his 64-year-old co-star’s health.

King said Myers’ is ‘getting there’ after revealing his diagnosis in May and starting chemotherapy.

The 55-year-old shared: “I just wanted to say, from Dave and I, thank you so so very much for all of the goodwill and support, all the messages really do not go unnoticed.

“He’s doing canny but as you appreciate, he’s right in the trenches of it all at the minute but he’s getting there, thank God.”

The BBC star appeared at the festival with TV presenter Jenny Powell, while Dave’s health meant he had to pull out of the event.

Back in July, Myers gave fans an update about his chemotherapy treatment.

While he's not yet specified his exact diagnosis, Dave said the 'prognosis is OK' and was trying to keep upbeat.

As he told Kate Thornton on her podcast White Wine Question Time: "At the minute I'm going through treatment for cancer and it's like another chapter.

"I went to the doctors complaining of certain bits and bobs and the next thing I know I got a phone and told it's a tumour and I'm going to have chemotherapy.

"Fortunately, the chemo is working but it's the effect chemotherapy has on you. Every day is a school day."

Dave also spoke about some of the side effects he'd been experiencing, adding: "My eyes are sore because my eyelashes have fallen out – it's crap like that's really irritating.

"But I'm getting there. I've got to go in tomorrow for another lot. I'm just getting through it."

The TV chef went on to say that he wouldn't wish what he's going through on his 'worst enemy' before saying: "But when I get through this, I'll never whinge again about anything. I'm going to embrace life and everything it's got to offer.

"I can't eat garlic at the minute, smells are really acute, it's all gone belly up. I'm told it will come back."

This is particularly heartbreaking because fans of the Hairy Bikers will know how much they love a good bit of garlic.

Dave made the initial announcement about his diagnosis sat beside his best mate, and the other half of the Hairy Bikers, Si King, for their Agony Uncles podcast.

Telling fans about his diagnosis, Dave said: "Anyway Kingy, I've got to come clean now, I haven't been too well recently.

“And basically, I've got to have some chemo – you know all this anyway.

“So this year is going to be a bit quiet for me, I'm not going to be filming, some of the festivals I'm not going to be able to go to, some may be OK but this year's a bit of a write-off for us."

He went on to say: "I have had to speak up about this because I don't want to hide under a rock.

“But I would love it if people respected my privacy and just let me get on with it and give Si and our team all the support they need, that would be great.

"But look, the prognosis is okay, I'm going to be fine."
